Indian Woman Sparks Outrage After Calling Nigerians Beggars and Criticizing the Country
An Indian woman has ignited controversy after sharing her negative impressions of Nigeria following a short visit. In a series of posts on her Instagram page, she harshly criticized the country, claiming it was dirty, heavily polluted, and even less developed than the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
She expressed her frustration with what she described as a widespread begging culture, stating, “Everyone is a beggar—security guards, cleaners, shop owners, street vendors, bike riders, taxi drivers, bus conductors—no matter who they are, they all beg for money.” She further alleged that when she refused to give money, people would become aggressive.
Recalling an encounter with a Yoruba bike rider during a visit to a waterfall, she described how he repeatedly warned her to leave upon seeing Fulani children there. She later asked him for a translation of what he had been saying, and he allegedly told her, “All Fulani are bandits. Not even God can save Nigeria.” She criticized this mindset, calling it foolish.
Regarding the environment, she commented on the pollution in Lagos, stating, “My first impression of Nigeria after four days: The air is too polluted, and the landscape is ugly. Also, everyone asks for money. Maybe Northern Nigeria has beautiful scenery, but I’m not going there.”
She also made remarks about Nigeria’s role in the drug trade, mentioning the involvement of China and India in the production of illegal substances.
Her statements quickly went viral, drawing widespread backlash. Many Nigerians took to social media to express their displeasure, condemning her remarks and defending the country.
