According to reports, the long lines were caused by rumors of a petrol shortage across the country.
Due to scarcity, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Oyo and Osun States will be increased to N195 per litre.
On Wednesday, Mr Mutiu Bukola, Chairman of IPMAN’s Ibadan Depot, which serves Oyo and Osun states, told the Daily Post.
A visit to some parts of Ibadan on Wednesday confirmed that there are currently long lines at petrol stations in Ibadan.
According to reports, the long lines were caused by rumors of a petrol shortage across the country.
As a result, IPMAN has announced that its members will raise the pump price, citing the need to avoid long lines in Oyo and Osun.
Bukola explained that members of the association are unable to sell at the old price.
He went on to say that this is due to an increase in the cost of landing and transportation.
He said, “We can’t buy petroleum in Lagos again. Whatever we see, they are selling for us at the rate of N178 without transport.
“The landing cost is now N195. If we buy at the rate of N178, it will take a minimum of N12 to get to Ibadan. If you add N178 to N12 you will know how much it will be. We are struggling to ensure that queues are no more in the petroleum stations.
“But, we will be selling at the rate of N195 to N200 to avoid long queues in Oyo and Osun states.”
IPMAN asked marketers across the country in June to start dispensing petrol at N180 per litre and above.
This directive was issued by the union because it claimed it was no longer possible to sell at the government’s cap of N165 per litre.
Akin Akinrinade, the Lagos Zonal Chairman of IPMAN, revealed this in an interview.
He explained the causes of the fuel shortage, claiming that the situation across the state was caused by an operating environment that had become hostile to their businesses.
He stated that the petroleum marketers were not on strike, as widely reported, but had found it difficult to operate due to their reliance on diesel, the price of which has skyrocketed.
