Piqued by what he believes to be the holier-than-thou attitude of a top monarch who called him a corrupt person, the Oba of Lagos, Ridwan Akiolu at a book presentation promised to expose corrupt Nigerian leaders and king after the 2015 general election.
He said this during the public presentation of a book, entitled: ‘Corruption and Human Rights Law in Africa,’ authored by Dr. Kolawole Olaniyan of the Amnesty International in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu said he was ready to expose the corrupt involvement of some of the traditional rulers in the South-West during the late General Sani Abacha’s draconian rule, saying he was privileged to have vital information on some Nigerian leaders due to his position then as Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation.
“The monarch that made the statement that I lifted oil will be shocked when I make certain revelations after the 2015 elections and I think he should close his eyes in shame because as at that time, I was still serving in the Nigeria Police and I wonder how I could have such time to be involved in the lifting of oil,” he added.
Oba Akiolu also opined that President Goodluck Jonathan should not be blamed as the harbinger of corrupt practices in Nigeria, as 99 percent of Nigeria were corrupt.
At the same event , Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who chaired the event on behalf of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Muthktar, described the death of a Nigerian lady in Dubai from Ebola after she was quarantined on arrival from Nigeria yesterday morning as a result of corruption.
He described as corruption the failure of the Federal Government to cater for Nigerian soldiers, who were sent to fight terrorism in Borno State and which led to the protest staged recently by their wives.
“Because of massive corruption in the continent today, the fundamental human rights of the people have been severely infringed upon. What the author has done in his book is that he has challenged all of us to think about the effect of corruption in the continent. The challenge of Ebola is not being tackled under the provisions of the law,” Falana said.
WHY NOT EXPOSE THEM NOW, SO THAT THE WHOLE COUNTRY WILL KNOW WHOM TO VOTE FOR.
