Fresh reports from the UK on Sunday evening claims that the management of Manchester United indirectly caused the bomb scare at Old Trafford which led to the postponement of the Premier League match between the club and Bournemouth.
According to the reports, the suspicious package that led to the cancellation was a “training device” which was accidentally left behind by a private company that the club hired for a training exercise at the stadium earlier in the week.
The Sun UK reports that the match was cancelled on advice from Greater Manchester Police after a suspected bomb was found in an Old Trafford toilet and an army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion.
But police on Sunday night confirmed that the device that was found and detonated by a controlled explosion was mistakenly left behind by an external company that the Old Trafford management had hired to test reaction to an explosive device in the stadium.
The Sun UK reports that security officials were left red-faced after realizing how the device got into the stadium but the army disposal unit went ahead to detonate the device.
The game has been rearranged for Tuesday night at 8pm.
