James Avery-the beloved dad on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air– died at age 68 following an open heart surgery that took turn for worse!

Sources close to the actor disclosed that the actor died in a Glendale, California hospital in the early hours of January 1, 2014.

‘Avery had undergone open heart surgery and took a turn for the worse late yesterday…his wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside but left for a short period of time and when she came back … she learned he had just died,’ the source said.

Alfonso Ribeiro -who played Avery’s son on the popular TV sitcom- was the first to post a message announcing James’ death on his Facebook page.
