Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has pledged ₦2 million to support organisations that assist survivors of sexual abuse and continue the fight for justice for 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje the young girl who tragically died in 2018 after enduring years of alleged assault from her guardians.
Baci revealed that Ochanya’s heartbreaking story deeply affected her, describing the teenager as someone who “should have been safe, loved, and protected” but was instead betrayed by those meant to care for her.
Honouring Ochanya’s Legacy
The renowned chef emphasized that truly honoring Ochanya’s memory requires more than just social media advocacy. She called for real action through funding, accountability, and community-driven efforts to safeguard vulnerable girls.
“As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness,” she wrote on Instagram.
Baci explained that the ₦2 million donation will be divided between two credible NGOs supporting rape and sexual abuse survivors, with the final selection to be made based on public recommendations.
Public Participation Invited
“To support that cause, I’m pledging ₦2,000,000 to organizations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors,” she announced, urging her followers to nominate trusted NGOs in the comments for her team’s review.
She also drew attention to an ongoing GoFundMe campaign raising funds for Ochanya’s legal case, encouraging both financial support and awareness.
“Every contribution helps move the legal process forward and strengthens the fight for justice. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay you can still lend your voice,” she added.
Standing Together for Justice
Baci described the initiative as a collective act of justice and compassion, noting that seeking justice for Ochanya would help empower others who have experienced similar pain.
“Honouring her memory means doing more than posting hashtags. It means showing up for those who are still here making sure no one ever feels alone in their pain again,” she stated.
Her gesture has since earned widespread praise online, with many applauding her sincerity, empathy, and commitment to the #JusticeForOchanya cause.
