Details of how ailing governor of Taraba State Danbaba Suntai spent his first day in office on Thursday emerged yesterday as the people continued to celebrate his recovery in Jalingo, the state capital.
Investigations by revealed that Suntai was accompanied to the office by a medical team of physiotherapists and nurses who monitored his speech and movement. Since Suntai was involved in a plane crash in 0ctober 2012, this was the first time he allegedly walked into the office unassisted by both medical personnel and aides.
It was learnt that on arrival at Government House on Thursday afternoon, Suntai spent two hours under close observation by the medical team, which thereafter declared him fit to resume work fully.
Apart from the doctors, a few of his associates and top officials of the Government House also watched the governor perform routine duties.
According to sources, Suntai walked into his office, took his seat and explained some of the things he wanted to do in the office before the plane crash. He was said to have had a chat with the medical team, which members were impressed with his ability to recall official events preceding the accident. The governor also requested to go round some of the key offices as he used to do.
With that development, the medical team was satisfied with his health status, saying that he was fit to resume work soon.
After the exercise, Suntai was asked to go back home for proper procedure to take its course as required by the law.
After his certification, Governor Suntai left for Abuja to consult with President Goodluck Jonathan without the knowledge of the acting governor who has been piloting the affairs of the state for the past 14 months.
