Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved a ₦70,000 national minimum wage for both state and local government employees.

The announcement was made by Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in an interview following a private meeting with the governor on Tuesday.

Fashe stated that state government workers will begin receiving their salaries at the new minimum wage starting in August 2024, while local government employees will see the increase from September.

He explained that the pay adjustments will follow the 2019 consequential adjustment table until the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission releases an updated table.

“Workers will receive their previous ₦32,000 minimum wage adjusted to the new ₦70,000 level in terms of percentage,” Fashe said.

He emphasized that Governor Fintiri’s commitment to worker welfare is evident through this early implementation of the new minimum wage, ahead of the national commission’s updated guidelines.
