Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has expressed serious concerns over the rising issue of piracy in the film industry, issuing a stern warning to her fans.
The box office sensation, whose new movie Everybody Loves Jenifa is set to hit cinemas on December 13th, took to social media to rally Nigerians against piracy.
In a passionate statement, Funke criticized the practice of recording videos in cinemas, calling it an act of piracy and urging people to stop as it harms the industry.
“SAY NO TO PIRACY!!! Recording clips at the cinema is piracy!!! Please stop it!!! Piracy is destroying us!! I put so much effort into this project. Please, I’m begging you, don’t support piracy!!!” she wrote.
She highlighted the extensive time, effort, and resources invested in her film, stressing how piracy undermines the hard work of filmmakers.
Funke also revealed that strict security measures would be in place during the movie’s release to combat piracy, including the apprehension of offenders.
