Renowned Nigerian activist, entertainer, and social commentator Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has made a surprising revelation about his past. During a recent television appearance, the veteran entertainer candidly confessed to engaging in criminal activities, including white-collar financial crimes, during his younger years in the United States.
Speaking as a guest on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ program, the “Area Fada” did not hold back as he reflected on the questionable decisions of his youth. Now a vocal advocate for good governance and social justice, Charly Boy admitted that his path to becoming the man he is today was riddled with risky and foolish behaviors.
A Reckless Past in the United States
Reflecting on his life around the age of 25, Charly Boy disclosed that his time living in America was marked by rebellion and reckless choices. He admitted to participating in financial crimes, openly describing himself as a “thief” during that turbulent phase of his life.
“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve been a thief. I’ve done very risky things. I’ve done very stupid things, very foolish things,” Charly Boy stated during the interview. He added that looking back, he believes there is a divine purpose for his survival, noting that he had “no business” being where he is today given the dangerous paths he once walked.
Documenting Transformation in His Memoir
Rather than hiding the dark chapters of his history, Charly Boy explained that he chose to embrace his flaws. He has fully documented these early struggles and criminal missteps in his memoir, aiming to offer a transparent look at his journey from rebellion to self-discovery.
By sharing his story of growth, the activist hopes to inspire others who may currently be making poor life choices. His transition from a troubled youth involved in financial crimes to one of Nigeria’s most prominent voices for social reform serves as a powerful testament to personal redemption and change.
