Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has died at the age of 61 following a long battle with illness.
Widely known his nickname Dodomayana, Rufai was highly regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest goalkeepers.
His football career spanned two decades, during which he played professionally in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. He proudly represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cups and featured in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
His passing coincides with another tragic loss in the football world—the death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, who was involved in a fatal car crash in Spain alongside his brother.
