First civilian governor of Plateau state and pioneer chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (pdp), Solomon Lar has died in an American hospital early Wednesday after a protracted illness.
Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state announced the passing on of the elder statesman at Government House and lodge in Jishe shortly after receiving the new speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Titus Alams.
Governor Jang described the late politician as not only an illustrious son of Plateau and Nigeria but the African continent for his immense contribution during the colonial days as well as his role during the military regime and pioneering the political party that ushered democracy after a prolonged military regime.
Chief Lar died at the age of ninety in a Maryland hospital, where he has been receiving treatment.
