A disturbing new video has surfaced showing the moment former Mexican beauty queen Carolina Flores Gomez was fatally shot in front of her baby, allegedly by her mother-in-law.
The 27-year-old, who was crowned Miss Teen Universe for Baja California in 2017, was reportedly at her home in the upscale Polanco area when the incident happened on April 15, according to footage obtained by Reforma.
The video reportedly shows Gomez, dressed in a white-patterned robe, walking through the living room before heading toward the back of the house, with her mother-in-law, Erika Herrera, following behind. Moments later, the shooting occurred.
Her husband, Alejandro Gomez, was then seen entering the scene while carrying their baby.
“What was that?” he asks in Spanish.
“What did you do, crazy?” an unidentified woman’s voice is heard saying.
“Nothing,” Herrera answered. “She made me angry.”
“What’s wrong with you? She’s my family,” the son responds.
“You’re mine and she stole you,” his mother said.
Authorities in Mexico City have launched an investigation into the killing but have yet to file charges.
Police have reportedly named Herrera as the main suspect and are also questioning why the fatal shooting was not reported until the following day.
The victim’s mother, Reyna Gomez Molina, told Univision News that her son-in-law delayed contacting authorities because he feared their baby could be placed in foster care.
Marina del Pilar Avila has called for a swift investigation.
“No crime against a woman should go unpunished. Our thoughts are with her family during this devastating time,” Avila told reporters.
