My dear people of chubbyville, it’s time to lace those sneakers up and get moving AND STOP sitting on your
ever expandingbehind.
You just got back from that wonderful holiday in the Caribbean sun (or maybe the dust of some rural area, holiday is holiday); now you’re back to school or work and some of your old clothes don’t fit. Your hourglass figure is spreading out in all the wrong places; your used-to-be-6-pac is threatening to “unpack”.
Not to worry brother/sister, that is just your body telling you that it’s time to get your workout on. Yeah, you saw that right: you need to start exercising. I know what you’re thinking; it’s difficult, I’m not that fat (yet), I don’t have the time, I can’t afford it, it’s going to make my rack droop and on and on. All these are baseless excuses you only give yourself so you can keep sitting on your ever expanding behind. You want to be hot and attractive right? Or maybe you just want to be able to tuck your shirt in without sucking in your belly. Then working out is the way to go. You just have find a great program and get started; I agree that this is not very easy, so like the generous lady I am (you’re welcome), I’m going to give you a few tips on building up a suitable workout regimen.
1. Have a positive attitude. You didn’t see that coming did you? Well a positive attitude goes a long way in whatever you do, be it starting out a new job, getting a tetanus shot or in this case starting out a workout. You need to be enthusiastic, that way you’re getting your mind ready for what’s about to go down. Chances are, if you already feel good about going ahead with the activity and you keep an open mind, then everything will turn out great.
2. Re-organise your time. You need to create time for this new activity in your schedule. If you’re serious about taking care of your body, then give it a time slot. By this I mean that if you decide to exercise in the mornings, three days a week for 1 hour every day, then make sure you stick to this routine for as long as it lasts. Before you know it, your body will be conditioned to this routine and it will become second nature to you.
3. Interact with other people. So you’ve found a gym now, and you’ve been there for about a week. But each time, you just walk in and walk out without as much as a hello to anyone. That’s not such a good idea. When you get in there, walk up to someone, say hello. Converse with them; ask them about their workout routine, exchange tips and ideas. This way you have one more thing to look forward to by going to the gym. Also by making friends with a person (or persons), you have someone to be accountable to, and more motivation to burn off that cellulite.
4. Be Committed. This is undoubtedly the most difficult part of all this. You need to be consistent. Keep up your rhythm; don’t flunk out just because you feel like or because you think you’ve done enough. Just when you think you’re done, you haven’t even started (Trust me, I know this). If you have a 6-month goal, then literally work that butt off till you get it.
5. Create a rhythm, but know your limits. I don’t mean stop altogether. I mean pace yourself; don’t try to do 250 push-ups or run a steady 5 miles on your first day. Start small and increase your reps. Your body will thank you for it.
6. Switch it up. Variety is the spice of life, need I say more? Don’t do the same routine over and over again, it’ll get boring. Also, your body will get so used to it that as time goes on you won’t really be burning any calories because your muscles are accustomed to the movement. It’s like expecting to tone your arms by lifting a glass of water every day (though that would be awesome).
So my dear people of chubbyville, it’s time to lace those sneakers up and get moving! See you at the finish line.
