The Federal Government has revealed plans to offer a vast estate—consisting of 753 housing units—to low and middle-income Nigerians. This estate, located in Abuja and spanning over 150,000 square metres, was recently seized from former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) described the property as its largest-ever asset recovery, secured through a final forfeiture ruling by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court on December 2, 2024. Although Emefiele attempted to challenge the forfeiture in April 2025, claiming the proceedings were hidden from him, his case was dismissed by the court.

On May 20, 2025, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede formally transferred ownership of the estate to Housing and Urban Development Minister Ahmed Dangiwa. This initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to expand access to affordable housing.

Speaking to Saturday PUNCH, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, said the estate is still under development. Structural assessments will be completed before homes are profiled and listed for sale.

The homes will be sold via the Ministry’s official portal — renewedhopehomes.fmhud.gov.ng — offering flexible payment options, including mortgages, instalments, and rent-to-own plans.

“The goal is to provide ownership opportunities for all Nigerians, especially low and middle-income earners,” Haiba explained. He stressed that the process will be fully digital and transparent to minimize human involvement and promote fairness.

Haiba added that the ministry is also finalizing over 10,000 housing units nationwide as part of the broader Renewed Hope Housing Programme.

Addressing public skepticism about potential elite favoritism, he assured that the current administration is committed to transparency and accountability.

“With our online platform, any Nigerian can browse available properties, choose a preferred unit and location, select a payment method, and receive an offer letter — all from the comfort of their home,” he emphasized.
