An advertorial by the Ministry of Aviation says the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja will be closed for repairs on March 8, 2017.
The announcement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, S. Zakari also revealed that stakeholders will meet on Thursday, to discuss issues arising from proposed closure.
“The six-week closure of the airport, which will be effective from March 8, 2017, is to enable government carry out comprehensive renovation works on the airport’s runway, in order to meet international civil aviation standards,” excerpts from the advertorial reads.
Sirika explained that the parley was informed by safety and security concerns and added that government was aware of the likely high level of discomfort and inconvenience the proposed closure would cause air transport passengers, airline operators and other service providers.
Meanwhile, Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation, had on Monday informed that fmeeting with stakeholders will afford him with the opportunity to officially inform the sector’s players of the decision.
“It is also to brief them on efforts being made to ensure that the use of the Kaduna international airport as an alternative during the six-week closure of the Abuja Airport is seamless and hitch-free,” a statement signed by James Odaudu, deputy director, press and public affairs, ministry of transportation read.
