The Federal government has terminated the appointment of Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, the director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) with immediate effect.
Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhamadu Buhari on Thursday announced the sack of Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, who was appointed by former president, Goodluck Jonathan for a tenure of four years in 2010.
His appointment was renewed in 2014.
“He is to hand over the management of NIMASA and all government property in his possession to the most senior officer in the agency who will remain in charge until a new director-general is appointed,” Adesina noted in the stetement.
Until he presided over the maritime agency, Akpobolokemi was a lecturer at the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island in Bayelsa state.
Under him NIMASA was embroiled in a series of scandalous deals, the most notable the purchase of warships for the agency by ex-Niger Delta militant.
