Goodluck Jonathan has been declared eligible to contest in the 2027 general elections by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The ruling was delivered during judgment in a suit filed by Abuja-based lawyer Jideobi Johnmary, who sought to prevent Jonathan from contesting any future presidential election on the grounds that he had already taken the presidential oath of office twice.
Justice Lifu, however, dismissed the case, describing it as an abuse of court process.
According to the judge, the matter had already been settled by both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, making the fresh suit unnecessary.
“I am bound by the above decision of the Court of Appeal and this court, I have no more to add”, Lifu said
The court also ordered the plaintiff to pay N20 million in damages to Jonathan and an additional N1 million to the Attorney-General of the Federation.
