Associated Press quoting an unnamed INEC official few minutes ago via its twitter handle @AP said “Nigeria postponing Feb. 14 elections so multinational force can secure Boko Haram areas. “
However, a tweet by INEC @inecnigeria reads “INEC has not made any official announcement about Feb. 14 polls. Meetings still ongoing.
A comical tweet by social commentator Tolu Ogunlesi suggested thus “This is what @AP should have tweeted: Official says elections will be postponed. INEC expected to make formal announcement soon.”
The AP statement said elections will be held in another six weeks, no specific dates were mentioned in the tweet.
INEC on Friday said it will announce if elections will hold in February on Saturady after a meeting with political parties and other relevant stakeholders.
