Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has made headlines by becoming the fastest woman to ever run the 150m straight track.
The Port Harcourt-born athlete achieved this remarkable feat on Saturday at the 150m Adidas Atlanta City Games, setting a new world record. The 22-year-old became the first woman to complete the race in exactly 16 seconds, breaking the previous record of 16.23 seconds set in 2018 by Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
Speaking after her historic performance, Ofili expressed her gratitude and excitement, saying:
“The Lord is good and is marvellous in my sight. I am surprised with the time. But I know I put in the work, I trust my coach, I trust his program, and I know at the right time the Lord would do it.”
It’s worth recalling that in 2023, Ofili also set an African record in the 200m with a time of 22.36 seconds at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her latest achievement has solidified her position on the global athletics stage.
