Akinbode, a Nursing graduatefrom Ondo State, was attacked last month on her way to the Corpers’ Lodge near the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobori, in Bayelsa State, her place of primary assignment.

Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government (SSG), Edmund Allison-Oguru, during a visit to Akinbode, said the arrangement for foreign medical treatment had been concluded and fixed for next week.

Allison-Oguru, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Board of the NYSC in Bayelsa State, said the attack on Folakemi, was unfortunate and condemned by the state government. He stated that government would continue to support Akinbode as arrangements for her transfer to Monza, were put in place.

“The state government has concluded arrangements to ensure she receives further medical attention in Italy to avoid any form of deformity and guarantee complete healing.

“We await to assure all residents, particularly Corps members, of their safety as the state security apparatus is being enhanced with modern gadgets to reduce crime to the nearest minimum,” he said.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Onyaye Kunle-Idowu, said in her speech that the treatment administered by the Consultant Cardiothoratic Surgeon, Olu Oshinowo, to ensure nerve, vein and muscular regeneration, had “set the tone for full recovery and treatment in the Italian hospital she was referred to.”
