A man, who’s name was simply given as Arinze, may have died after he was pushed down from a two-storey building by an expatriate working with Arab Contractors Construction Company. The incident happened at a construction site at the new Enugu State secretariat located near the State Police Headquarters, Enugu.
Confirming the incident the Enugu State Police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said that victim was rushed to a nearby hospital “where he is now responding to treatment”.
According to him the Command has commenced “full scale investigations into the mater” adding that expatriate, whom he identified as Abdul Lateef, has been arrested.
But in quick reaction an Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Southeast Zone insisted that the person pushed down by the expatriate has died. CLO’s South East director, Olu Omotayo, condemned the action of expatriate, describing it as “barbaric.
According to Omotayo, “the white man identified as Abdul Lateef, is a superior worker with the construction company was with the deceased on the second floor of one of the buildings under construction, when they had a disagreement on how a particular job should be done, the said white man for reasons best known to him pushed the deceased”.
Omotayo further said that there was an uproar in the company yard as other workers wanted to lynch the murderer. However, policemen who were at the scene intervened, and took the man away to safety.
“The young man was later rushed to the hospital, where we learnt that he was confirmed dead,” Omotayo concluded.
