A former military man, Sunday Umaru, is currently under arrest by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death after seeing text messages on her phone, from other men.

According to Punch, Sunday, a former official attached to Sector 7 of Operation Save Haven, Jos (OPSH), had previously served in the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army.

He was handed over to the police by the Nigerian army after he was dismissed from the force over the girl’s murder.

His girlfriend, Charity Thomas, was stabbed to death in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau state. She was said to have come to Plateau state from Kaduna to spend time with Sunday.

Speaking while parading the suspect on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekunle Oladunjoye, said Sunday had invited Charity from Kaduna to stay with him and “while going through her phone, he saw some text messages from other men which made him lose his temper.”

The commissioner noted that Sunday has been formally charged to court for his action.

He further stated that there was no room for crime in the state as the police force has increased efforts to curb criminality.
