A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, capital of Nigeria’s central state of Kwara, has ordered the remand in prison of a 35- year old ex-Councillorship aspirant in Yagba West local government area in neighbouring Kogi state, for allegedly raping a five- year old girl.

It was gathered that the accused, identified as Gbenga Sunday lured the victim 18 June to his room with sweet and raped her.

A reliable source informed our correspondent that the suspect sensing the implication of his action went into hiding and later curiously resurfaced with some policemen to arrest the victim’s grandmother for smearing him on the matter.

On getting to the police station, the victim who had gone to the police station together with her grandmother identified the suspect who was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The suspect was charged to court on a one-count charge of rape contrary to section 283 of penal code law.

Magistrate A. Adeniyi adjourned the case till 10 July for further mention
