The Emir of Kazaure, Jigawa State, Alhaji Najeeb Hussaini Adamu has blamed the current high cost of food stuffs on hoarding by traders.
He warned that those involved in the act of buying food stuffs from farmers, only to hoard them, would face stiff disciplinary action, henceforth.
The Emir described the act as sabotage, since it was causing hardship to the people.
He said: “I want to appeal to you farmers especially, to sell your farm produce to genuine traders and help us by exposing any such greedy foodstuff hoarders to constituted authorities for punitive action to be taken against them.”
The Emir warned farmers against late harvest of the their produce to avoid clashes with herdsmen in Jigawa State.
According to him, “you know how these herdsmen invade your farmlands in search of food and water for their flock. You can avoid clashes if you harvest your crops early, so even if their cattle enter your farmlands, there will be nothing to destroy.”
He also contended that the only way out of the current economic meltdown was for Nigerians to return to farming.
