The Federal Government, on Monday,September 14, maintained that the planned hike in electricity tariffs would commence from October in spite of the resistance from electricity consumers across the nation.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, who spoke at the Powering Africa Nigeria conference in Abuja, stressed that Federal Government is committed to improving activities of the power sector and also provide an enabling environment for investors.

Igali stated that the government will continue to refine different areas in the power sector as the need arises to enable investors in the sector to enjoy profitability.

Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Sam Amadi, who spoke on the proposed review in electricity tariff, said from October, there would be a new tariff from the Distribution Companies, DISCOS, for retail consumers.

He said stakeholders in the sector were in the process of finalizing a new tariff structure.
