Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has officially confirmed the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
Speaking to BBC News Pidgin on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the arrest followed a series of complaints filed by different individuals. “He was taken into custody to respond to several allegations brought against him by petitioners,” Oyewale said.
Addressing speculations about the involvement of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Oyewale clarified that the complaints were submitted by unrelated individuals, and the EFCC is acting in accordance with its duty to protect citizens and uphold the law.
He further confirmed that the agency is preparing to formally charge VeryDarkMan in court, saying: “He will be released once he meets his bail conditions. We are following due process and the case will proceed to court as soon as possible.”
