E. A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has urged Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorists within 90 days or step down from office amid growing insecurity across the country.
Speaking in a video shared on the church’s official X page on Tuesday, June 2, Pastor Adeboye called on the federal government to act swiftly in tackling the nation’s security challenges.
He said:
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,”
The cleric explained that while religious leaders can offer advice, the ultimate responsibility for national security lies with the commander-in-chief.
Adeboye also recalled giving similar advice to former President Muhammadu Buhari during his administration, urging him to set a deadline for security chiefs to defeat Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, Buhari acted on the advice by issuing the directive but failed to take further action after the deadline expired.
“He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through. Because he gave the order as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The three months went, and the work was not done,”
The RCCG leader revealed that he later questioned the former president over the decision not to enforce consequences after the deadline but chose not to disclose details of their discussion.
He further advised the current administration to ensure that any directives given to security agencies should target not only terrorists but also those funding and supporting them, regardless of their influence.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists, they should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he added.
Adeboye’s remarks come amid renewed public concern over insecurity, kidnappings, and attacks on schools in different parts of Nigeria.
