The Defence Headquarters has firmly dismissed claims that the French military is planning to establish a base in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, described the reports of French soldiers arriving in the country as entirely baseless.
Buba referenced remarks by Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa CFR, who had previously debunked these rumors in various media engagements.
The attention of Defence Headquarters has been drawn to online reports alleging the arrival of the first contingent of French soldiers in Maiduguri towards establishing a French Military base in North East Nigeria. The Armed Forces of Nigeria hereby state unequivocally that this information is fake, totally false and mischievous. It would be recalled that Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa CFR, recently addressed this matter in different media forums. In which he debunked the news and such speculations.”

Urging the public to disregard the speculations, Buba stated, “These are clearly the antics of mischief makers.”
He assured Nigerians that the military remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities, including safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity, and emphasized its commitment to professionalism.
The Defence Headquarters reiterated its dedication to Nigeria’s security, dismissing the rumors as unfounded distractions.
