David Ibiyeomie has reacted to criticism suggesting that religious leaders have remained silent over the worsening insecurity situation in Nigeria.
Speaking during a church service, the founder of Salvation Ministries argued that many of the people currently demanding that pastors speak up were also among those who ignored or criticised church leaders who spoke against the government during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Ibiyeomie, religious leaders have consistently raised concerns about governance and insecurity over the years and should not be accused of complete silence.
He questioned why some Nigerians seem to disregard previous interventions made by pastors while now demanding stronger reactions from them.
His remarks come amid ongoing public conversations surrounding insecurity, kidnappings, and the role of religious leaders in national issues.
He said:
“Now nobody is talking again, all those people that use to r!ot during are not r!oting again, Nigeria is a funny country. They talked during Jonathan, why they no talk again. They say men of God are not talking about the country’s insecurity, the ones that talked during Jonathan’s term, why’re they not talking now? The time we talked, una talk ? We’ve been shouting since”
