The Lagos State House of Assembly has urge Governor Raji Babatunde Fashola to look into the activities of cultists and beef up security around the Mainland and the entire state during the yuletide.
The house also at its sitting onTuesday ruled that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Tanko be invited to brief members on security challenges in the state early next year.
This was disclosed at the house during it’s sitting on Tuesday, which also had in attendance the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko for a brief on how security challenges in the yuletide and early part of the year can be addressed.
However, members of the hallowed chambers of the house came up with these resolutions following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by a member, Honourable Moshood Oshun representing Lagos Mainland 1.
Hon. Oshun told his colleagues that cultism was becoming a menace, pointing that a man was allegedly killed in Bariga at broad day light in a inter cult supremacy fight.
In the same vein, the lawmaker noted that cultists in higher institutions around the Mainland area are now actively initiating youths and miscreants from their host communities into their fold.
Also speaking, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa of Agege I constituency observed that the matter should be seriously treated because it borders on security which according to him must be seen as an important issue that needs urgent attention.
The Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Rotimi Abiru who is a representative of the area explained that the police in Bariga sometimes appeared compromised or were helpless in combating crimes in the area.
