Popular content creator Alvin of Lagos has ignited a significant social media discussion with a provocative statement, declaring himself “a strong hater of Nigerian men.” His assertion, delivered in a video, stems from his deep-seated criticisms regarding the treatment of women by men in Nigeria.
Alvin emphasized the deliberate nature of his pronouncement, preemptively cautioning against responses that resort to the common argument that “not all men” exhibit such behaviors. He underscored his frustration by recounting a specific incident involving a woman who, after a casual dinner with a friend, was approached by a man who complimented her and asked for her social media details.
According to Alvin, the very first message the woman received from the man was an explicit proposition, inquiring if they could engage in sexual activity in his car. The content creator unequivocally labeled this encounter as sexual harassment.
Expressing profound disappointment, Alvin highlighted the widespread defense of such actions he observed online. He noted counting approximately 50 to 60 comments from men on X (formerly Twitter) who reportedly saw nothing inherently wrong with the man’s initial message.
Challenging this perspective, Alvin questioned why women frequently bear the blame for inappropriate male behavior. He posed a rhetorical question to those defending the incident, asking how they would react if their own mothers or sisters received similar unsolicited and explicit messages.
He further accused some men of displaying a hypocritical stance, suggesting they only condemn such offensive conduct when it directly affects women within their close family circles, while simultaneously dismissing or trivializing the experiences of other women.
