The Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actress Cecilia Obi-Kechere.

Her passing was announced by the Directors Guild of Nigeria through its Instagram page.

According to the statement, the actress died on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

The guild also acknowledged her contributions to the growth and unity of the association, especially within the Abuja chapter.

The association extended condolences to her family and loved ones.

”On behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire DGN family, I extend my deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all members of the Abuja Chapter in this difficult time. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace” The statement reads in part.

Earlier, reports also confirmed the death of veteran actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi.

The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, said Akiyesi passed away in his sleep on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Abuja.

His remains were reportedly deposited in a morgue in the Federal Capital Territory.

A native of Akoko-Edo, Edo State, Akiyesi joined Nollywood in the late 1990s and built a career that lasted over two decades. He appeared in more than 100 films, including Marry Who You Love, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, and Pretty Liars.

He was widely known for his versatility in supporting roles across family dramas, romantic films, and faith-based productions.
