A suspected armed robber who snatched a car belonging to the former chairman of Zuru local government, Alhaji Sani Tadurga, died in an accident while attempting to escape with the stolen car along Zuru-Yauri road.
Confirming the incident to reporters yesterday in Zuru, the former chairman said the suspect was pursued by good Samaritans who were alerted along Rijau Bunu road as he headed to Yauri.
According to him, the vehicle was stolen by the robber just 30 minutes after it was packed by the driver in front of his house in Zuru last Tuesday around 7:30pm.
He said: “Coincidentally, someone traveling along that route who was among those that were contacted by the driver saw the car, with even the plate number still intact, drove pass him at top speed around Rijau and he gave the suspect a hot pursuit”.
“Other people joined in the pursuit in Rijau and they were able to overtake the suspect and blocked the road. He ran into the road block and drove through”.
“The people took courage and continued to chase the robber and he suddenly lost control and ran into two electrical poles while trying to dodge the road block waiting for him few kilometers to Bunu along Yauri road.”
The Ex-chairman added: “The car is a Toyota Corolla saloon with registration number AH249ZURU and the dead suspected robber’s name is Abubakar Cito whose family is well known to me in Zuru Jar kasa area.
“Cito, 35 was said to have been divorced by his wife because of his criminal activities.
“His in-laws dissolved the marriage and took away their daughter because of his criminal activities and irresponsible behaviors.
“I reported the case to the police in Zuru who promptly assigned two policemen and with the assistance of the police in Rijau to recover the body and the car at the scene of the accident.”
“The former chairman, Sani Tadurga has made formal report to the police and they have commenced investigation into the matter,”he said.
