Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has officially laid to rest his iconic title, “African Giant,” in a deeply personal message shared via his backup Instagram story.
In a reflective and cryptic note, Burna Boy revealed that the “African Giant” version of himself was metaphorically “killed” by his own people. According to him, out of that pain, a new identity—Big 7—was born as a defense mechanism to protect what remains of his emotional core.
“The ‘African Giant’ is gone—taken down by his own people. Out of the ashes, ‘BIG 7’ was created to guard the last remaining fragment of Burna Boy’s broken heart.”
He added that while Big 7 serves as his shield, the spirit of the “African Giant” still lingers, often conflicting with his present self.
“There’s a constant inner struggle between ‘BURNA BOY’ and ‘BIG 7’. While the latter protects, the ghost of the ‘African Giant’ continues to haunt me.”
