Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season following an impressive campaign with Manchester United.
The Portuguese midfielder adds the latest recognition to the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award he received earlier this month after playing a major role in helping Manchester United finish third in the league and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Fernandes scored eight league goals and matched the Premier League’s single-season assist record after registering his 20th assist during United’s clash against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
The midfielder also created 132 chances during the season, the highest by any player in the division and 43 more than the next closest player, Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool.
Fernandes becomes the first Manchester United player to win the Premier League Player of the Season award since Nemanja Vidić claimed the honour in 2011. The award winner was decided through a combination of fan voting and selections made by a panel of football experts.
Other players nominated for the award included David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice of Arsenal, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, alongside Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago, and Morgan Gibbs-White.
Manchester United are expected to face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday.
Meanwhile, members of the club’s coaching staff, including Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion and Craig Mawson, have reportedly signed new two-year contracts to remain part of manager Michael Carrick’s coaching setup.
Carrick recently signed a permanent two-year deal after initially taking interim charge following the departure of Ruben Amorim in January.
In the Young Player of the Season category, Nico O’Reilly of Manchester City emerged winner after an impressive breakthrough season.
The 21-year-old defender recorded five goals and three assists in 34 league appearances. O’Reilly, who joined Manchester City’s academy at the age of eight, also earned his first senior England appearance in November and has been included in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He beat competition from fellow Manchester City player Rayan Cherki, Bournemouth duo Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott, Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United, Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode, and Matheus Fernandes.
