Veteran Nigerian musician Bright Chimezie has shown his appreciation for Davido and Omah Lay for their collaboration on the track ‘With You’, which creatively samples his classic song ‘Because of English’.
In a video shared on his Instagram, Chimezie was seen dancing enthusiastically to the song, expressing joy and admiration for how the artists paid homage to his work.
“You can see I’m already vibing to the song. It’s a beautiful and impressive piece. I’m grateful that you acknowledged taking inspiration from a track I recorded years ago. I truly appreciate it,” he said.
In response, Davido honored the music icon with a message in Igbo, writing:
“Ihe di ka gi akokwala m. Chief Sir Bright Chimezie, Ezigbote Onye Egwu,”
which translates to, “People like you inspire me. Chief Sir Bright Chimezie, a true music legend.”
‘With You’ appears on Davido’s fifth studio album, produced by Tempoe, and fuses Highlife and Funk—a musical blend rooted in the 1970s and ’80s sound that artists like Chimezie helped pioneer in Nigeria.
