The foreign and commonwealth office of the United Kingdom and the Department of Travel for the the United states have issued a travel warning to their citizens in lieu of the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states which has been historically marred with violence and large scale rioting. Here is the official statement that was released:
“Local elections for governor will take place on November 16 in Bayelsa and Kogi states. Travel into and movement within the states will be restricted on election day.“There have been reports of politically related violence and deaths in recent days. If you’re in these areas or decide to travel, you should continue to avoid large gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities and use local radio and TV to stay updated on the current security situation.”
Warnings like this is expected because election violence is very prevalent in Nigeria and it is only right to warn citizens before hand
