Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a stringent Executive Order restricting motorcycle operations across the state between 10:30 pm and 5:30 am daily. The decisive measure, announced on Friday, is a direct response to escalating insecurity, particularly following the recent abductions of school children and teachers.

Governor Makinde emphasized that the state government remains relentless in its efforts to secure the safe return of all kidnapped victims. He conveyed the deep pain and anxiety felt by their families and the entire state each day the captives remain in detention.

Governor Reassures Public on Abduction Efforts

Addressing the pressing issue of abductions, Governor Makinde assured residents that round-the-clock operations are underway. He acknowledged the immense challenge facing his administration in securing their release, describing it as a “tough conversation” for the government.

“Every day the victims remain in captivity is a painful day for their families and the entire state,” Governor Makinde stated. He reinforced that the victims have neither been forgotten nor abandoned by the state government.

Understanding the public’s concern, the governor clarified why details of the ongoing rescue efforts are not widely publicized. “We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” he explained, urging citizens to trust in the government’s commitment.

Community Prays as Security Heightens

The governor’s executive order comes amidst heightened tension and various community responses to the insecurity. Traditional worshippers in the state have also held spiritual rites, praying for the swift and safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers, underscoring the collective anguish and hope for peace.

This ban on overnight motorcycle movement is a critical component of a broader strategy by the Oyo State government to enhance security and prevent further criminal activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
