A newly released video on YouTube shows the alleged leader of terrorist outfit Boko Haram, Sheik Abubakar Imam Shekau issuing new threats at the Nigerian government.
The 14-minute video posted late last night shows Shekau who was flanked by gunmen brandishing AK-47 Kalashnikov rifles in his lair.
Speaking in Arabic and Hausa language he said, “One day you kill 1,000, and then we turn back, then after two days we kill your own 100”, Shekau said.
A smiling Shekau further said President Goodluck Jonathan would be unable to stop the group’s attacks.
“Jonathan, you the helpless, we heard that you intend and want to destroy us, but this talk is useless when it is said by an infidel because only God can destroy us”, Shekau said in Arabic. “Until now, nobody was able to do that (destroy us), and you too will not be able to do anything, with God’s help”.
“We are also aware of some Muslims using our name to make money, we will say nothing but let them continue, and they will meet Allah in the last day.
“We are not doing physical human service, but Allah’s work and it is clear your aim is killing us. Let me tell you with Allah we will triumph over you and your men in hundreds. We are not boasting rather keeping quiet and working for Allah.
“Allah that finishes Pharaoh and others wicked rulers that you are not even up to them, will finish you and end your government. We are not afraid because we are not doing man work but Allah’s work. And we will see who will carry the day.”
The video Thursday showed a new sophistication for the group. Shekau has issued videos via YouTube in the past, though this one included a Hausa-language song at the beginning about the sect, saying its members were ready to kill nonbelievers.
The beginning of the video also showed a logo of two crossed Kalashnikov rifles around a Quran and a black Islamist flag. That symbol mirrors one used by al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, a group that diplomats and officials believe has loose ties with Boko Haram.
