Senator Ben Bruce on Monday disclosed that his hospitalized colleague, Senator Dino Melaye was gassed by policemen during his arrest last week.

Melaye incredibly jumped off a police van last week after he was arrested in connection with criminal charges in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The embattled senator has since been hospitalised at the National Hospital, Abuja, where he’s under guard by the police.

As members of the National Assembly continue to show solidarity with him, Senator Murray-Bruce (PDP, Bayelsa East) said he was gassed by the policemen and could barely breathe.

In a tweet Monday, the senator said: “Just met with @dino_melaye. Very sad to hear what transpired. Dino is asthmatic, yet while in transit, the police gassed him & he could barely breathe. Second time they gassed him, he had to force his way out of the vehicle. Dino literally escaped death. SAD!

Melaye stunningly survived an attempt to recall him from the National Assembly on Saturday, as the Independent National Electoral Commission cancelled the process after less than 5% of the electorates turned out for verification.

He remains in custody for the time being.
