Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), marking a major political shift in the state. The announcement was made today, October 15, 2025.
Alongside the governor, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and 23 other lawmakers also tendered their resignations, signaling a mass defection that could reshape the state’s political structure.
Governor Diri’s exit comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking widespread speculation that Diri may soon follow suit.
Although Governor Diri has yet to declare his next political move, analysts suggest his defection could bolster the APC’s foothold in the South-South and strengthen its influence ahead of future elections.
The development has sparked intense political discussions nationwide, as many await official confirmation of Diri’s next step and the implications for both the PDP and APC.
