Barcelona is reportedly preparing to award rising star Lamine Yamal the iconic No. 10 jersey, once famously worn by Lionel Messi.
This move comes as the 17-year-old forward prepares to sign a new long-term contract with the LaLiga giants, solidifying his place at the club. Yamal has quickly become one of Europe’s standout young talents and is even considered a Ballon d’Or contender following his impressive performances and a European Championship win with Spain last year.
According to Mail Sport, Barcelona views Yamal as the most promising player to emerge from their ranks since Messi’s debut nearly two decades ago.
Yamal is set to celebrate his 18th birthday in July by signing the deal, which will reportedly include a €1 billion release clause. As part of the agreement, he will inherit the No. 10 shirt currently held by Ansu Fati, whose future with the club remains uncertain. Yamal has been wearing the No. 19 jersey this season.
