AY Makun has urged Nigerians to engage in sincere self-reflection over the country’s growing challenges, especially following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
In a statement shared online, the entertainer argued that people whose income or careers are tied to politicians often struggle to speak honestly about issues affecting the nation.
According to him, dependence on political figures can make it difficult for individuals to hold leaders accountable or openly address national concerns.
AY stressed that the current insecurity and governance challenges facing Nigeria should not be viewed through the lens of politics, ethnicity, tribe, or religion.
Instead, he called on citizens to prioritise the nation’s overall wellbeing and embrace their shared responsibility in tackling issues that affect everyone.
His comments come amid increasing public concern over insecurity, including recent reports of kidnappings involving students and teachers in Oyo State.
He said:
“It’s time we tell ourselves some truths. When your source of livelihood depends on politics or politicians, your conscience d!es and telling the truth becomes your greatest feår. That is one thing I have noticed amongst us. We need to reflect deeply on the state of the nation and our collective responsibility as Nigerians. Today, we are dealing with matters that affect the country, not a political party, tribe, or religion.”
