To stop any kind of terrorist assault, the federal government has stationed security personnel at railroad stations and bushes along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
The security measures were put in place by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to counter an alleged conspiracy to assault trains along the route.
Recall that on March 28, 2022, terrorists ambushed a train headed for Kaduna from Abuja, capturing a large number of passengers in the process. The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) was compelled by this incident to temporarily cease operations along the line.
Security Alert: coming Threat By A Coalition Of Banditry Syndicate To Attack Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Along AKTS Corridor, a leaked letter from the DSS signed by R.N. Adepemu, Director of FCT Command, advised train passengers to be especially careful over the coming attack.
The DSS stated that there was a “impending threat to seamless train transportation along the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS),” and that a group of banditry syndicates was preparing to attack the Abuja-Kaduna train at any moment with the intention of kidnapping the passengers and holding them for ransom.
The representative clarified that the security precautions were consistent with the letter that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) leadership of the DSS had sent to the NRC.
According to the NRC officer, “the security team verified to me today that soldiers had already been deployed in the forests. Army and Air Force troops are among the individuals who have been sent into battle.
“I can vouch for it since some of the personnel who were on the train’s escort operation from Abuja to Kaduna observed some of the troops in every station and even in the bushes.
According to the information I have, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff gave the order to extensively search the bushes in Rigasa, Jere, and Asham to weed out the undesirable elements.
“The number of security officers on the train has not risen, but not fewer than 15 Mobile Police Officers join the train, and they are fully armed, on each voyage from Abuja to Kaduna.Additionally, each of the locomotives has a security camera that can be viewed from the Idu Station. In order for the operators to view what is happening inside and outside the train.
The stations also have Thuraya phones, and the NRC headquarters in Lagos and the Force Headquarters in Abuja can both monitor calls made on those phones. To the best of my knowledge, the attack has been prevented by these steps as well as some more that I won’t reveal. We won’t experience what we did in March of last year.
