A People Democratic Party (PDP) governor has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot hold on to power for much longer in Lagos, just as another PDP governor said claims by the APC that two governors from the ruling party are set team up with the opposition is nothing but lies .
Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, who recently returned to the PDP from the Labour Party (LP) told correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday that the APC will find it difficult to hold to Lagos state in the next general election.
He said his new party was making inroads into the south-west and is the party to watch
“All indications were pointing to the fact that the PDP is already making inroads into the south-west again. It will be difficult for the APC to hold on to Lagos state,” Mimiko said.
Meanwhile, governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, has denounced claims that two PDP governors were on their way to APC.
His Kano counterpart, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a member of the APC had made the claim on Monday.
Suswam said Kwankwaso’s statement only confirmed that APC chiefs were already aware of the fact that they would not win any election without support from the PDP.
He said PDP would beat the APC roundly during the general election, maintaining that any group that was sure of itself would not be seeking help from enemies camp.
Suswam said:” It looks like the APC people do not have confidence in themselves, that on their own they can make progress. So they keep speculating that PDP members are going to join them.”
“That shows clearly that APC is not a party that Nigerians can go to. If I am sure of myself, I won’t be asking for additional troops from the enemy camp to come.”
“They are not sure, they know they will not win until the PDP members join them even now with the strength they have. Kwankwaso was in PDP, he had added value, so to say. They now discovered lately that in spite of that, they can’t make any progress.”
“They are now speculating and hoping against hope. No PDP governor will go to APC. Rather, we are having people who started PDP who are very strong like the Iroko (Mimiko) coming back to join the family that they left.”
“No governor is leaving PDP. We are going to defeat them roundly. They are scared. Nobody is going to join them from the PDP, not even a counsellor.”
