A former Royal Marine who lost three limbs while serving in Afghanistan has spoken of how he had to ‘beg, borrow and steal’ to get the care he needed.
Mark Ormrod lost both his legs and his right forearm after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) in Helmand province on Christmas Eve 2007.
But Mark, who became the UK’s first triple amputee from Afghanistan, has said that the distress he suffered begging charities for money was more than the physical injuries he had suffered.
In a report written by former Royal Marines captain and fellow triple amputee Jon White, Mark spoke of how he continues to ‘beg, borrow and steal’ to get the care he needs.
‘It is a source of extreme stress and anxiety for me, my wife and my children, who all depend on me,’ he said.
