Former boxing world champion Amir Khan has shared his thoughts on the idea of a boxing match between football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi and Ronaldo have reigned supreme in football for almost twenty years, amassing a combined 13 Ballon d’Or titles. Speaking with Instant Casino, Khan admitted he would gladly pay to watch the two football icons face off in a boxing ring.
However, the former boxing champion expressed doubt that such a spectacle would ever take place, citing their immense wealth as a reason. Quoted by GOAL, Khan said, “That would be a great fight. I’d buy a ticket for that. We don’t know who the number one is. I like both — Ronaldo’s a great ambassador, so is Messi. But with the kind of money those guys are on, I don’t think they’d ever actually fight. They don’t need to.”
When asked what advice he would give Messi regarding pitch invaders during his time in Major League Soccer, Khan suggested that the Argentine star should simply avoid confrontation. He said, “Honestly, just run. He’s got so much to lose and give — don’t even try to fight back. He’s on such a huge wage, it’s not worth the risk.
“I understand why they moved his bodyguard away, but really, fans just want to get close to him, maybe hug him. They’re not out to cause harm. They love him.”
Since departing European football, Ronaldo and Messi have yet to cross paths competitively again. Ronaldo currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, while Messi represents Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
