Tomeka Thiam, wife of renowned Senegalese-American singer Akon, has officially filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
According to court documents submitted on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, Tomeka is seeking to dissolve the marriage while requesting joint legal custody of their daughter, with visitation rights for Akon.
She is also asking for spousal support and urged the court to reject any similar request from the singer. The filing cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending the marriage.
Tomeka and Akon, who tied the knot in September 1996, share a 17-year-old daughter together.
