Recent reports indicate that Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, said to be the son and adopted daughter of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, have been detained by the police in Ikoyi, Lagos State. They are accused of stealing N55 million from Mr. Ibu’s charitable donations. The announcement was made by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in Alagbon on Thursday, January 25, 2024. According to FCID Spokesperson ASP Mayegun Aminat, a petition was received on September 6, 2023, alleging that Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, Valentine Okafor, and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu conspired to defraud Mr. Ibu while he was unwell. It was revealed that Mr. Ibu had initiated a fundraising campaign to cover his medical expenses, with donations solicited from his fans, industry colleagues, and the public. Initially, Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor, Mr. Ibu’s wife, managed the finances for medical purposes. However, Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu allegedly gained unauthorized access to Mr. Ibu’s financial information by stealing Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor’s phone.
